Lions Club of Central Xin’an Special Education School

Xin’an Special Education School was originally located beside a railway used for coal transportation in Xin’an County, Luoyang City, Henan Province. The premises consisted of two dilapidated school buildings and a leaking dormitory. The school had a total of 94 students, ranging from early childhood to teenagers, of whom 76 were hearing‑impaired and 28 had mild intellectual disabilities. Due to the poor condition of the campus, the local county government decided to purchase a former office building of an electricity company in the urban area as the new school site. However, funding was still needed for classroom supplies, language room equipment, computer facilities, and renovation works.

To commemorate the 15th anniversary of our Club, the Board of Directors resolved to establish a school named after the Lions Club of Central. Through the introduction of the Henan Disabled Persons’ Federation, we selected Xin’an County, Luoyang City, as the location for donating a school for the visually impaired and intellectually disabled. The project covered the renovation and refurbishment of the relocated school premises and the purchase of urgently needed special education equipment. This project marked the first successful grant awarded by the Lions Clubs International Foundation to District 303 of China Hong Kong & Macau. It also received support from our sister club, the Taipei Da Tong Women Lions Club, for dormitory equipment. Total donations reached RMB 600,000.

The Lions Club of Central Xin’an Special Education School held its opening and naming ceremony on April 6, 2007, in Xin’an County, Luoyang City, Henan Province. A delegation of 30 members from our Club attended the ceremony. We interacted with the teachers and students, shared a dinner together, and enjoyed a performance prepared by the students—a warm and memorable occasion.

Since the school opened, the Lions Club of Central has remained deeply committed to its students and staff. We have organized visits every year to follow up on the school’s development and needs. Over the years, we have sponsored various facility improvements, including toilet renovations, the installation of air‑conditioning, and the donation of sports uniforms and other supplies, all aimed at creating a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for the students. This enduring commitment across borders embodies the spirit of “We Serve” and bears witness to the profound bond between the Lions Club of Central and the Xin’an Special Education School.
